How XPNotes works: from notes to quests, XP and a weekly boss
Part of the guide: How XPNotes works: the complete guide, from note to weekly boss
XPNotes is a notes app where the game only moves when your life moves. There is no XP for screen time: every reward comes from something you marked as done. This guide walks through the whole machine, using the numbers the app really uses.
How does a note become a quest?
You write in a note like in any editor: text, lists and task lines. Each task line is a quest, one line for one quest. When you finish it, on Today or right in the note, you earn XP.

To link a line to a goal, end it with #goal-name. To keep details, write a description in parentheses at the end of the line. The free plan has up to 50 notes.
How much XP is a quest worth?
Every quest is worth 10 XP. There is no difficulty to pick: a small task counts as much as a big one, so splitting work well pays off.

Three things change that 10:
- Critical hit: each completion of the day has a 10% chance to be critical and worth double, 20 XP. The roll is fixed per account and per position in the day, so undoing and redoing gives the same result.
- Streak: each streak point adds 5% XP, up to 150% of the base. With 10 points, a 10 XP quest gives 15 XP. The streak only resets if a day when the quest was scheduled passes without it.
- Daily limit: completions 1 to 15 of the day give 100%; 16 to 25 give half (5 XP on a 10 XP quest); after that the gain drops even further. The game rewards a well-lived day, not a race to check everything.
How do levels work?
Level 1 to 2 takes 20 XP, which is 2 quests. After that, leaving level n costs 33 + 7.1 × n, rounded: 47 XP from level 2 to 3, 54 XP from 3 to 4, 104 XP from 10 to 11. There is no cap: past level 120 the same formula keeps going.
Each level gives +1 to every attribute (Strength, Agility, Dexterity, Intelligence and Vitality) and +10 HP. Your equipped class also earns its own XP, twice the quest XP, and that is what unlocks skills. Your hero and classes live on the Character and Classes screens.

What about life goals?
A quest linked to a goal sends it the equivalent of 20% of its own XP: 2 XP on a 10 XP quest. Each goal has a photo and earns badges from accumulated XP.
| Badge | XP accumulated on the goal |
|---|---|
| Bronze | 50 |
| Silver | 300 |
| Gold | 900 |
| Platinum | 2,200 |
| Diamond | 5,000 |
By the math, Bronze takes 25 quests of 10 XP linked to the goal. It is an honest marker of consistency, not of talent.

What is the campaign?
It is the initial setup: you pick 1 to 3 life areas, define a goal for each, and for each goal 1 or 2 habits with a frequency. When you confirm, the app creates the goal and the recurring quests. If there is no quest for today, it creates the first one: "Take the first step". You can redo the flow later from the Goals screen.

How does the weekly boss work?
Every week (Monday to Sunday) a boss shows up. Its health is 80% of the recurring quests scheduled for that week, with a minimum of 10. Each quest completed during the week takes health off it.
Example: 4 habits scheduled for 5 days make 20 recurring quests, so the boss has 16 health. Defeat it and open the chest: you get gold (100 plus 15 per level; at level 10 that is 250) and 3 and 2 units of the boss's materials. The boss gives no XP and no hunts: its prize is gold and materials.

What are hunts?
A hunt is a turn-based fight between your hero and a monster. Hunts only come from quests: each of the first 5 quests completed in a day gives +1 hunt, and you can store up to 100. If the day ends with no quests, there are no free hunts.
Winning gives gold, materials, items and cores. Combat gives no XP: levels come only from real life. You can spend gold and materials to unlock classes and buy gear. Set your class Rotation, choose the monster and see the result.

How does the party fit in?
A Party gathers up to 4 people, with chat, the week's streak and a weekly chest when the goal is met. In combat each ally adds 10% to the encounter reward: with 3 allies, the bonus is 30%. Nobody has to play in a party; solo stays the main path.

What does XPNotes not do?
No ads, no loot boxes, and we never sell XP, gold, power or progression time. To see how it fits your routine, check the features, the plans, the FAQ or the page for people who love RPGs.

Frequently asked questions
How much XP is a quest worth in XPNotes?
Every quest is worth 10 XP. A critical hit (10% chance) is worth 20, and each streak point adds 5% up to 150% of the base. From the 16th completion of the day on, the gain shrinks.
How do I earn hunts?
Only by completing quests: each of the first 5 of the day gives +1 hunt, with a maximum of 100 stored. There are no free hunts and no buying hunts.
Does combat give XP?
No. A win gives gold, materials, items and cores. Level and XP come only from quests, so the game moves when your life moves.
What if I do not beat the weekly boss?
Nothing is lost: you just do not claim that week's chest. You can claim the current or the previous week, as long as the boss was defeated.
Do I need a party to play?
No. Solo is the main path. A party of up to 4 adds a bonus to combat rewards and a weekly chest when the goal is met.
