XPNotes and Habitica: what's different

Both turn tasks into an RPG. Habitica has native apps, more languages and open-source code; XPNotes is built around life goals, with turn-based hunts, 23 classes and notes with tasks, and only sells the Epic plan, with nothing that gives an advantage in the game.

In short

Habitica has been around since 2013 and is the best-known app for turning tasks into an RPG. XPNotes starts from the same idea with a different center: your life goals, turn-based combat you set up yourself and a notes editor whose tasks become quests.

The Habitica details below come from the pages listed under "Sources", checked on October 2, 2026. Prices and features change: check the source before you decide.

Where Habitica does better

  • Native apps for iOS and Android; XPNotes runs in the browser for now (you can install it on your home screen).
  • More languages and a large community with over ten years of history.
  • Open source, for people who want to read or contribute to the code.
  • Public Challenges and a collection of pets and mounts.
  • Negative habits, to track what you want to avoid.

Where XPNotes is different

  • Life goals at the center: the starting campaign sets up areas, goals and habits; each goal earns medals and bosses.
  • Real turn-based combat, with 23 classes, a Rotation, a forge and more than 600 pieces of gear.
  • Hunts only from quests: each of your first 5 of the day gives a hunt, and there are no free hunts.
  • No punishment for missing: your hero doesn't lose health; only the quest's streak resets.
  • Notes with tasks: a notes editor where every task line is a quest.
  • Only the Epic plan for sale, and a rule never to sell power.

Which one to choose

If you want native apps, lots of languages or a big community, Habitica is a great choice. If you want turn-based combat to build, life goals at the center and no shop inside the game, try XPNotes: the free plan has the whole game.
